SP: Speeding driver had gym bag with marijuana inside
TOWN OF PAMELIA, N.Y. —
New York State Police say a man was caught with more than four pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in the North Country.
Troopers said the marijuana was discovered when a driver was pulled over for going 93 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 81 in the Town of Pamelia. While talking to the driver, the trooper noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
"A consent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a gym bag containing 4.1 pounds of marijuana," state police said in a release.
Troopers also determined the driver, identified as 37-year-old Justin Rourke of Hogansburg, was wanted on an active warrant from Franklin COunty.
Rourke was arraigned in the Town of Pamelia Court on a charge of second-degree Criminal Possession of Marijuana and sent to the Jefferson County Jail on $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond, state police said.
A previous version of this article quoted a New York State Police release which stated there were more than 41 pounds of marijuana in the gym bag; state police issued a correction Friday indicating the amount was actually 4.1 pounds. This article has been updated to reflect that correction.
