A 7-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car Thursday afternoon on the city's Westside, Syracuse Police say.

It happened in the 1100 block of W. Onondaga Street just before 5 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say the boy was hit by a 2013 Toyota Sequoia westbound, but haven't revealed any more details about what led to the crash. The boy's mother has identified the victim as Zyquan Lanaux, of Syracuse. Lanaux was going to be a second-grader at Bellevue Elementary School this fall.

Police confirmed the boy's identification later Friday afternoon.

Lanaux was transported to University Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A makeshift memorial made up of candles and stuffed animals has been present at the scene since yesterday evening.
