Spring storm cancels and delays school across northern New York

Several schools are closed and scores of others across northern New York are delaying the start of classes as a spring storm dumps sleet and freezing rain across the region.
The Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake school districts in the Adirondacks have called off classes because of Friday's weather, which has made driving hazardous on some North Country roads.
Many other schools in Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin, Essex and Clinton counties are starting classes two hours later than usual.
A mixture of sleet, rain and freezing rain is falling from the eastern end of Lake Ontario eastward to the Champlain Valley. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 11 a.m. for Jefferson and Lewis counties and until noon in St. Lawrence County.
