State police arrest man after deadly shooting in his Oneida County home

State Police have arrested 49 year old Larry W. Utter for murder in the shooting death of his wife.

Just after 4:00 p.m. on June 11, Larry Utter called 911 to report he had accidentally shot his wife, 45 year old Stacey L. Utter at their home on Trestle Road in Forestport. Stacey was declared dead at the scene. Troopers say they immediately took Larry Utter into custody after making observations and listening to his version of events.

Troopers say an autopsy was completed on June 12, and revealed Stacey Utter had been hit with two shotgun rounds.

According to investigators, police had been called to the home twice in the last year for domestic incidents. Those incidents did not result in any arrests. However, investigators also say interviews with family members had revealed recent domestic tension between Larry and Stacey Utter. Stacey Utter had been staying somewhere else in the days leading up to the shooting.

Larry Utter was taken to a local hospital following the shooting while he was in police custody where he was under observation for a medical condition. State police expect him to be released soon, and then he'll be arraigned in a local criminal court.
