We now know the names of the people who died after a head-on collision in the Southern Tier on New Year's Eve.
State Police say 20-year-old Derek Nichols and 67-year-old Kathy Lattimore were passengers in two different vehicles that
collided just after 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon on Route 96 in Newfield in Tompkins County.
Nichols was pronounced dead at the
scene, while Lattimore was taken to a Cortland hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
State Police say Nichols was the only passenger in 1
9-year-old James Crosby's car.
Investigators say Crosby was driving north on Route 96, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossing into the opposite lane and into the path of an SUV, being driven by 31-year-old Samantha Aarino.
There were two passengers in Aarino's vehicle, Lattimore and 32-year-old Eugene Aarino. Samantha and Eugene were taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Crosby had a leg injury.
State Police continue to investigate. They're asking anyone who may have seen the crash to give them a call, 607-347-4440.
