Stolen firearms prompt urgent warning from Madison County Sheriff

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating two daytime burglaries in the Town of Sullivan and warning neighbors about one burglar who stole several guns.

The first burglary occurred around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Route 173 in the Town of Sullivan. Deputies say the homeowner called 911 to report someone had broken into their house while they were in another part of the house.

Deputies say the burglar ran out of the house to a metallic golden 4-door sedan, where another suspect was waiting and they took off. According to deputies, the burglar took an Apple iMac and an external hard drive.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies received the call about the second burglary just before 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. A homeowner returned home to the 1600 block of McGraw Road in the Town of Sullivan after work and found the front door of the house open.

Deputies say the burglar took several firearms, including several rifles and a shotgun.

"These stolen firearms have created a sense of utmost urgency," said investigators.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies are asking anyone who may have been in the area Wednesday afternoon and seen anything suspicious to contact the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 366-2311.
