Stores open earlier and earlier for Black Friday shoppers

Itâ??s just over a week until Thanksgiving, and for many, the start of the holiday shopping season.

This year, Target is opening its doors to kick off the holiday shopping season at 9:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving, which is three hours earlier than the store opened last year. This decision comes after a petition was signed by more than 100,000 Target employees last year asking Target not to open at midnight on Thanksgiving but to open its stores at 5am on Friday instead, in order to allow workers to spend more time with their families.

At Destiny USA, all of the stores will open at midnight on Black Friday, the day retailers rely on to kick off the holiday shopping season.

Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, is also opening its doors to shoppers two hours earlier this year opening at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Wal-Mart stores are guaranteeing early shoppers access to a selection of its most popular items.

Lord & Taylor, which was closed on Thanksgiving last year, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Do you shop on Black Friday? Do you think the stores at Destiny should be required to be open at midnight? Do you think retail workers should now expect to work on Thanksgiving?
