Student suspended over shirt wants change

According to Madiosn Kidney and her mother, this is the shirt that got Kidney suspended from Dryden High School this week.

According to Madison Kidney and her mother, this is the shirt that got Kidney suspended from Dryden High School this week.

"If I'm sitting in class doing my work and my breasts seem to be the thing that's stopping you from your education, then you need to remove yourself because that's not my problem," Kidney said.

Kidney says the principal told her students and teachers were complaining they could see the stitching on her bra through her shirt.

"It was ridiculous," she said. "Everything was covered."

The district dress code says students cannot wear apparel that has a plunging neckline, is excessively revealing, is see-through or that exposes undergarments.

Madison believes none of these apply to her situation.

The student says she was spoken to by the principal the day before regarding her wardrobe.

"I get in trouble for not wearing a bra, and then I put a bra on like they wanted me to, or had asked me to, and I still get in trouble," she said.

The code of conduct does not require students to wear certain undergarments.

"I don't think it's fair," Kidney said.

Kidney fears being suspended could affect her acceptance into college, but she hopes this inspires others to speak up when they feel like something's not right.

"I want people to stand up for themselves," she said.
