As soon as it was announced that the Syracuse University men's basketball team would be playing Duke in the Carrier Dome, it was clear that the game would be one of the most anticipated college basketball games in the country this season. Single game tickets went on sale for season ticket holders Tuesday and the game is already close to sold out.
Season ticket holders are allowed to purchase a maximum of 8 single game tickets for the Duke game and long-range view seats at $45 each were the best available.
"The tickets are in the 300 level and a lot of people have said, 'I wish we could get better seats.' What's hard about this is we've sold so many season tickets and we've sold out of student season tickets. There's just not much left," said Syracuse University Associate Athletic Director Joe Giansante.
SU promises that a limited number of single game tickets will be made available to the general public starting at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Those tickets are expected to sell out within minutes of going on sale.
"I think it's a little bit like the Rolling Stones or Bon Jovi coming," said Giansante. "People that go to concerts are used to a one minute sell out, and I think that we're looking at something like that for tomorrow with the Duke and North Carolina games."
There are still a few ways to get seats though. You can buy a package with either the Duke or North Carolina game and any other five games for $160. You can also buy a season ticket.
Season ticket holders picking up extra single game tickets Tuesday say their friends and family would be willing to accept a long-range view for the chance to see two of college basketball's elite teams.
"Their records, these two great teams, two great coaches, two of the greatest coaches ever, it's a chance to witness some history," says Nicholas Midey, an SU season ticket holder. "And that's what the ticket is about for me."
"You're not going to get tickets to any game down there, so you have to hope they come up here. So seeing them play Syracuse, it's going to be a great game," SU student Branden Wawrzyniak said. "I was at the Georgetown game last year and that was packed. I can't wait to see how packed this is. I was hoping they would put it in the center, but just the amount we're going to have is going to be so crazy and loud in there."
