SU Marching Band counts down to Super Bowl performance

The Syracuse University Marching Band is making its final preparations for its biggest performance yet: the Super Bowl.

This Sunday the SU Marching Band, which is comprised of students from SU, the SUNY College of Environment Science and Forestry (ESF) and Onondaga Community College, will team up with the Rutgers University Marching Band to perform on the field at MetLife Stadium for Super Bowl XLVIII.

"I've been playing musical instruments since 4th grade but my freshman year at SU was my first year in a marching band," said SU senior sara McCarthy. "To go from brand new four years ago to playing the Super Bowl will be surreal. This is actually pretty amazing."

The bands will perform selections from New York and New Jersey greats like Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z and Bon Jovi.

The 200-member band will board a train early Sunday morning to depart for Newark, NJ. They'll take the field at 6 p.m. prior to the Broncos and Seahawks kicking things off the most-watched sporting event in the country at 6:30 p.m.
