Sullivan man charged after firing shots, prompting evacuation of neighborhood

A Sullivan man is accused of firing shots in a neighborhood, prompting the evacuation of neighbors.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Sunday in the Town of Sullivan.

24-year-old Brandon Rudy, of 9378 Lakeshore View Drive South, is charged with reckless endangerment and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Madison County Sheriff's deputies, Chittenango Police and New York State Police responded to the scene and set up a safety perimeter around the home. Investigators say Rudy was drunk when he threatened neighbors. Deputies say Rudy then fired several shots outside his home. Neighbors along Lakeshore View Drive South, Woods Road and Damon Point Road were evacuated.

Investigators made several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Rudy. Around 10 a.m., Special Operations Team then deployed CS powder, a form of tear gas, into Rudy's home. Rudy was then taken into custody, but was combative during his arrest.

He was arraigned in Sullivan Town Court and released after he posted $1,000 bail. He is scheduled to be back in court at a later date.
