Authorities say nine members of a college crew team have been rescued after their boat took on water while they were rowing on a western New York lake.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office tells Rochester media outlets that the team of male and female athletes from SUNY Geneseo was training on Conesus Lake when their boat took on water when the waves got choppy around 7 a.m. Thursday.
The boat overturned as the crew headed for the lake's western shore in the town of Geneseo. Officials say the team's coach was riding in a separate safety boat and took the rowers to shore.
Police say the rowers spent up to 15 minutes in the cold water and were treated at the scene. No injuries were reported.
