SUNY Upstate warns about armed robbery

SUNY Upstate Medical University is warning people about an early morning armed robbery.

School officials say a man, claiming he had a gun, stole a woman's purse at the intersection of Almond and East Adams Streets around 4:50 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5'8" tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark sweatshirt, baseball cap and pants with his sweatshirt over his mouth at the time.

The hospital is now asking people in the area to be on alert and walk with a friend or colleague.

Campus shuttles are available and the University can provide an escort by calling University Police at extension 4-4000.
