Swat team surrounds house in Massena

Police have surrounded a house in northern New York while searching for a person believed to have opened fire on two others, possibly in retribution for a botched kidnapping.

Local media outlets report that SWAT team members and officers operating a robot were calling late Wednesday afternoon for a suspect to come out of the house in Massena, a town on the St. Lawrence River.

They'd gone to the house after shots were fired at a car carrying a man and woman accused of trying to kidnap a 17-year-old girl in February. Lawyers for the two say the woman in the car was taken to a hospital with wounds that aren't life-threatening.

There have been no other reports of injuries.

Massena is 140 miles north of Syracuse.
