Syracuse basketball shows a very giving side in Atlanta

The father of a Georgia toddler who was critically injured in a freak accident was invited to watch his favorite team practice ahead of the Final Four.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim invited the family of Tripp Halstead to come watch the team Wednesday at Oglethorpe University. Tripp suffered a brain injury last October when a tree branch fell on him outside his Winder daycare.

The CBS television station in Atlanta, WGCL-TV, reports Tripp's father Bill Halstead grew up in the Syracuse area. Coach Boeheim told the station, "It's great. It's a good feeling to help Tripp's father here."

"I can't even imagine what it's like to go through where some freak accident out of the blue gets your son," Boeheim said.

The plight of Tripp Halstead was also the focus of this report by CNY Central featuring the local effort to raise money for the child's medical bills.
