Syracuse City School Board votes to add sentries to elementary schools

The Syracuse City School Board voted to add school sentry positions to the district's elementary schools Wednesday night.

With several incidents of weapons being brought to schools in Syracuse over the last few weeks, school safety is becoming a top priority.

Now that the school board has approved it, one sentry will be added to each elementary school and one additional sentry will be added to each K-8 school.

"It's good to hear we're putting our money where our mouth is on safety for children," said Talina Jones, who has a son and a niece in the school district.

Adding the school sentries is part of Syracuse's school budget for the upcoming school year.
