Syracuse comedian 'Big Mike' Goss has died.

The man named Salt City's funniest fatman had been in failing health.

Mike Goss, who spent his life making people laugh in Central New York and beyond has died. Friends of the comedian say he passed away Wednesday evening. A cause of death was not revealed, but Goss had been in failing health for several months.

Goss spent years appearing on Wednesday evenings at Syracuse's Spaghetti Warehouse. He was known as 'The Salt City's funniest fatman.'

Goss would use his obesity in his comedy routines - sometimes dancing lewdly as a male stripper. Goss described his brand of comedy on the website In the interview, Goss said, "I'm trying to continue making people laugh right up until my last breath!!"

"Mike Goss had the biggest heart in CNY Comedy and would help anyone write a bit," local comedian Yvonne Conte told CBS 5's Michael Benny.

Conte, a Corporate Culture Expert, Keynote Speaker, and Author at Humor Advantage, Incorporated worked comedy clubs in Syracuse alongside Goss for years. "He never worried about anyone getting ahead of him, he was a great guy. Had a smile and a big hug for everyone. He will be missed," Conte said. "He was the kind of guy who did for others and never ever expected anything in return. We started out together in 1989-90 and he always had an encouraging word and very supportive. You could not have found a sweeter guy," Conte recounted.

There will be a funeral mass to celebrate Michael's life next Tuesday, October 8 at 12:10 p.m. at St. Daniel's Church in Syracuse. At Mike's request, the celebration will continue at 3:00 p.m. at Barbagallo's Restaurant in East Syracuse.

On Monday evening, loved ones may pay their respects during calling hours at the Thomas Pirro Jr. Funeral Home at the corner of Vickery and Buckley Road in North Syracuse from 4 to 7 p.m. .
