Syracuse fans are excited about Saturday's matchup against Duke in the Carrier Dome. The two teams have not played each other in fifteen years, since the 1998 NCAA Tourament.
"I was here when they played Duke in 1998," said Syracuse fan Mike Gaulin. "I remember the game, and I'm a longtime Syracuse fan. "And it's been a very good year, so they're going to keep it going, 21-0."
At Rosie's Sports Pub and Grille in Syracuse, Syracuse University graduate David Foltz was the sole Duke fan in the bar. Foltz said he has been a Duke fan since he was 12-years-old. "I think it'll be a great game," said Foltz. "It'll be close until about 10 minutes to go, and then Duke will pull apart."
Several Syracuse fans came from out of town for the game. Syracuse University alumni Kara Landsman and Jocelyn Cary came from New York City and Boston, respectively, for the matchup. Both agreed the weekend is as much about meeting up with friends as it is about the game.
"It's less, I think, about actually seeing the game and what's going on and more [about] being there and being with your friends and the atmosphere," said Landsman. "And you're just kind of looking at the score every once in a while."
"When we were in school, we didn't play Duke," said Cary. "So this is a fresh start for a good rivalry."
SU plays Duke on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
