The list of 16 options for the future of I-81 through Syracuse will be narrowed to a handful within two weeks. A public meeting is set for June 26th at the Oncenter in downtown Syracuse where I-81 viaduct project director Mark Frechetti will present the choices that will move forward.
The New York State Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration have examined options which include tunnels, elevated highways, street level boulevards and a depressed highway. The screening done since the end of May has led to the choices that will move forward as part of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
The meeting runs from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The head of the viaduct project Mark Frechette will make presentations at both 4:00 and 6:00 pm. The details of the plans will be posted on the i81opportunities website on the day of the meeting.
