Syracuse man arrested after burglary in two Ithaca apartments

Ithaca Police and Cornell University Police were called to 114 Stewart Avenue for a burglary in progress at about 12:13 am on Sunday.

The resident told authorities that there was a man in his apartment and was able to give officers a description of the suspect. While officers were investigating, there was another call of a burglary in progress a few houses away. The resident from the second burglary confronted the man who was trying to steal a television from the apartment, according to police. This resident also described the suspect to police.

Officers stopped a man who matched the descriptions on Seneca Street. The resident was able to identify the suspect. Police now have 29-year-old Eric E. Russell, of Syracuse, in custody, as they found the stolen television in the area where Russell was stopped.

Russell is charged with burglary, petit larceny and criminal mischief.

Additional charges may be coming, pending the investigation.
