Syracuse man arrested after his pit bull attacks another man

A Syracuse man is facing charges after his dog attacked a man.

It happened around 10:40 p.m. Monday along the 200 block of Essex Street.

51-year-old Steven Cruse suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by a pit bull. Cruse told police his German Shepard was outside when his dog was attacked by two pit bulls

Cruse helped break up the dog fight, then told the owner of the pit bulls he was calling police. That's when one of the pit bulls attacked Cruse, causing serious injuries to his arm and hand.

The pit bulls' owner, 29-year-old Eric Bacon, of 130 Mains Ave., left the scene with his dogs. He is charged with assault and was sent to the Justice Center. Bacon is scheduled to be arraigned in Syracuse City Court on Wednesday.

Cruse was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was treated for several dog bites.

The two pit bulls were turned over to authorities pending the investigation.
