Syracuse man found guilty of sexual assault after first conviction thrown out

An Onondaga County jury has found a man of guilty sexually abusing an elderly woman for a second time after his first conviction was thrown out on a technicality.

In Onondaga County Court Thursday afternoon, Vincent Torres of Syracuse was found guilty of felony burglary, sodomy, attempted sodomy, and sexual abuse after he was accused of breaking into a 76-year-old womanâ??s home in 2003 and forcing her to perform sex acts.

This was Torresâ?? second trial in this case. His 2011 conviction was thrown out on a technicality because his wife was not allowed into the court during jury selection.

Torres faces 87 years in state prison when he is sentenced on May 10.
