Syracuse man found in church bathroom with a BB gun and drugs

A 24-year-old Syracuse man faces a variety of charges after police say he was caught hiding out in a church bathroom where he had stashed a BB gun and crack cocaine.

Syracuse police say that Alex Preston was spotted on the street shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday in a neighborhood where gunshots had been heard. Police say Preston ran away from officers, who later found him hiding in a bathroom in St. Luke's Baptist Church.

After a brief struggle, Preston was taken into custody. A search of the bathroom turned up the BB gun and drugs.

No injuries were reported.

It could not be determined if Preston has a lawyer.
