Syracuse man's death now investigated as homicide

The death of a Syracuse man injured in a fight is now being investigated as a homicide.

Syracuse police tell CNY Central 38-year-old James Huddleston, of 545 Gifford Street, was injured in a fight along the 400 block of Gifford Street in the early morning hours of October 15th. He died 23 days later on November 7.

Police were told Huddleston's injuries were not life-threatening, but he never regained consciousness.

The medical examiner ruled the assault was a contributing factor in Huddleston's death, but they have not determined if the assault or falling after the attack was the exact cause of death.

This case may now head to a grand jury.

Anyone with information about the fight is urged to call Syracuse police at (315) 442-5222.
