The Mayor of Syracuse has announced the members named to a newly formed 'Stadium Task Force' to examine how, or if, to move forward with plans to build a new downtown stadium that could replace the Carrier Dome.
"Any project concerning Syracuse University athletics is bound to generate interest and conversation in our community," Mayor Stephanie Miner said in a prepared news release. The Mayor did not indicate when the panel would meet. Considering the various people named to it, there is good reason to believe it would be difficult to get all the parties together in one place.
City Hall says the task force will study the impact any proposed new stadium would have on nearby neighborhoods, municipal infrastructure, and economic development. Recently, Mayor Miner effectively put the breaks on a project that had been in the works between the Sate and Onondaga County. The Governor willing to invest $200 million in state dollars because of the planned extensive redevelopment of the area where Kennedy Square apartments once stood.
