Syracuse police make arrest, recover loaded handgun after suspicious person complaint

Syracuse police recovered a loaded handgun after responding to a suspicious person complaint Friday afternoon.

Police received a report about a suspicious person with a handgun around the 800 block of Lemoyne Avenue. Two officers responded to the area and found a man matching the description of the person with the handgun.

Police say the suspect ran away when the officers approached him, but he was quickly caught.

According to police, a loaded 40 caliber handgun was found near the area where the 15 year old suspect was taken into custody. His name is not being released because of his age.

Police say a records check showed the handgun had been reported stolen.

The 15 year old is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Police say he was lodged at Hillbrook Detention Facility and will appear in Family Court at a later date.
