Syracuse police arrested a teen who broke in to a vacant apartment building and tried to cut and steal pipes.
Police responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 500 block of Catherine Street around 2:15 Friday afternoon. Police say they arrived at the vacant apartment building and followed footprints in the snow to an open basement door.
According to police, 19 year-old William East was seen fleeing the building, and a power saw and several pieces of freshly cut pipe were found in the basement.
Police caught up with East at his home on East Willow Street and arrested the teen. East is charged with burglary, a felony, and petit larceny. He is in the Justice Center and is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
