If youâ??re one of the 35,012 who has a ticket to Saturdayâ??s Syracuse â?? Georgetown showdown, you may want to get to the Carrier Dome early.
SU Athletics issued a reminder to Orange fans Thursday morning encouraging them to plan ahead in order to beat the expected heavy traffic. With a record crowd expected to be on hand, SU says there could be long lines in parking lots and at the Dome gates as fans file in for the big game.
SU announced Tuesday that the game is sold out, only the second time in the Domeâ??s history that all allotted tickets have been sold. A then-record crowd of 34,616 watched the Orange defeat Villanova in February 2010. Since then, SU officials say they have allocated additional seating or order to allow more fans into the game and set a new attendance record on Saturday.
The Dome gates will open at 2:00 p.m., two hours before the scheduled 4:00 tipoff. Fans driving to the game are encouraged to park at Skytop or Drumlins for $12 and take a shuttle bus to campus. Parking lots will open at 11:00 a.m. SU says all lots near the stadium are sold out.
On Saturday the Orange and Hoyas will meet in Syracuse for the final time as members of the Big East Conference. Next season SU will depart for the ACC, while Georgetown has announced plans to join the so-called â??Catholic 7â??, who are also breaking away from the Big East.
At halftime, SU will recognize former star forward Carmelo Anthony by retiring his jersey and commemorating the tenth anniversary of the school's 2003 National Championship.
If you donâ??t have a ticket to the game, you can watch all of the action on WTVH CBS-5. Coverage begins at 4:00.
