Syracuse water main break shuts down service in Eastwood

Eastwood water main break

Parts of an Eastwood neighborhood will be without water today after a water main break took place overnight.

The Syracuse City Water Department tells CNY Central that around 5:00 a.m. they received reports of a water main break at the intersection of Teall Avenue and James Street.

The department says work is underway now and could take up to eight hours to complete. Streets have been blocked off in the area to allow crews to access the pipes safely.

Officials say they are not completely sure of the impact on service yet. They have shut down a water main on James Street to fix the break, which has affected dozens of homes in the area. While crews were digging for the break, a second break developed at a water gate, which controls water flow through the pipes. Both breaks are currently undergoing repairs.

We're told that Lincoln Middle School is not affected by the outage, but the Merriday School has closed for the day.
