Good news for local food lovers. The Taste New York Harvest Fest kicks off this weekend at the New York State Fairgrounds.
More than more than 60 food and beverage vendors from across the state will be on hand at the Horticulture Building offering free samples of everything from fine wines to baked goods to fancy salsas.
Fifteen Central New York companies will be taking part in the event. Leah Race owner of Syracuse based "Cheeky Monkey Dipping Oil," says demand for her product is taking off.
"It's in over 200 outlets and literally demand is growing everyday. I've got unanswered e-mails in my inbox from people who want to carry it from New York State to Texas. We could not be happier with the reception it's gotten here," she says.
Nineteen companies will offer wine samples, with a seminar on pairing New York wines with cheeses and chocolates on Saturday. The Horticulture Building will also feature a small fall-themed menu with items for sale.
The Taste New York Harvest Fest runs from 10 a.m to 5 p.m Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m on Sunday. Tickets $15 dollars if purchased in advance and $20 dollars at the door. Advanced tickets are available at the New York State Fair website, nysfair.org.
All admissions include a free "Taste New York" wine or beer glass.
