Teen arrested after stealing purse from elderly woman

A 16 year-old girl was arrested Monday, charged with stealing the purse of an elderly woman in DeWitt.

Police say around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, they were called to the parking lot of 6598 Thompson Road, where a 73 year-old woman had her purse forcibly stolen from her. The victim was then dragged by a suspect vehicle that fled the scene.

Police found the 16 year-old suspect in a nearby hotel. Police say the teen was a passenger in a vehicle when she saw the victim with her purse. Police say the teen told investigators she saw the victim staring at her, which is when she decided to steal the purse.

The victim suffered injuries to her head and knees. She was treated for those injuries at the scene and was released.

The 16 year-old is charged with robbery, assault and reckless endangerment. She was arraigned and is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center on $5,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
