Teen bicyclist in surgery after being hit by car
A teenager from Auburn is currently in surgery after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.
Auburn police say they received a call about an accident at 4:15 Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Brookside Drive in the City of Auburn.
Police say Anthony Vivenzio, 15, of Auburn was riding his bike when he collided with a car being driven by James Parsons, 44, of Auburn.
According to witnesses, Parsons was driving southwest on Grant Avenue. Witnesses say he entered the intersection of Brookside Drive with a green traffic signal when Vivenzio tried to cross Grant Avenue against a red traffic light. That's when the two collided.
Police say Vivenzio wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury. He was airlifted to Upstate Hospital and is currently in surgery.
Police say no tickets have been issued.
