Police said 19-year-old Sherman Jackson, of Syracuse, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Syracuse Police were called to the 200 block of South Alvord Street near Seward Street, of Lodi, about 12:40am. Police say the evidence 'was found over a large area' and had a four block area closed off as investigators worked.

"We will soon have this figured out," said Police Chief Frank Fowler. "We're talking about the death of a 19-year-old male. Obviously that garners a great deal of attention from the Syracuse Police Department, as it should. I'm confident we're going to have this figured out very shortly."
