Teen dead, 2 others critical in Syracuse shooting

Syracuse police say they are making significant progress in the Christmas Eve murder of a 19-year-old Syracuse man.

Police said 19-year-old Sherman Jackson, of Syracuse, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Syracuse Police were called to the 200 block of South Alvord Street near Seward Street, of Lodi, about 12:40am. Callers to our newsroom say they heard many shots, and saw the victim dead in the street. Police say the evidence 'was found over a large area' and had a four block area closed off as investigators worked.

"We will soon have this figured out," said Police Chief Frank Fowler. "We're talking about the death of a 19-year-old male. Obviously that garners a great deal of attention from the Syracuse Police Department, as it should. I'm confident we're going to have this figured out very shortly."

The two surviving gunshot victims were rushed to University Hospital for emergency surgery they have now been identified as 26 year old Christopher Mike and 20 year old Nikeem Brown . They've been upgraded to serious condition and are expected to pull through.

Police say this is an active investigation, just getting underway. They're asking anyone with information to call 442-5222. The calls will remain confidential.
