The Rochester area teen whose disappearance triggered an Amber Alert wasn't actually in danger, police now say. 16-year-old Cassidy N. Geffert is now charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. Police have told reporters her arrest is "directly related to her involvement in today's incident at her home." That is all the information they have provided.
It was 1:30 p.m. Monday when State Police issued the Amber Alert, saying Geffert had been taken from her home and a note, with blood on it, had been found in the house.
By early Monday evening, Police in Greece had downplayed many of the troubling details. Authorities tell the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle newspaper that investigators initiating the Amber Alert hadn't realized that their observations would be included in the notifications.
The teen was found safe in Brockport about 45 minutes after the Amber alert was issued.
