Teenager killed in shooting on south side of Syracuse
Police in Syracuse say they're investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy who was gunned down by someone in a vehicle.
17-year-old Dylan Cheek was shot while he was walking on the 1400 block of South Avenue, on the city's south side, at about 10:15pm on Wednesday night, according to authorities.
Police say Cheek was walking alone on South Avenue, heading north on a sidewalk when a dark colored car pulled up and several shots were fired from the vehicle. The car then sped off, heading north on South Avenue.
Cheek was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, the motive for the shooting is not clear but it does appear as though Cheek was targeted.
Syracuse Police are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything, or anyone who may have been in the area on Wednesday night, to call 315-442-5222.
