A teenager is in serious condition after being shot Sunday night on Syracuse's south side.
Police say it happened around 8:40 p.m. on 638 West Newell Street, about a block from Onondaga Creek.
Paramedics rushed Jamar Sheppard, 16, to Upstate University Hospital to undergo emergency surgery after he was shot at least twice, according to police.
Investigators blocked off a section of West Newell Street searching for evidence. Multiple shots were fired and casings were found along the 600 block of West Newell Street, according to police.
Sergeant Tom Connellan said officers are still trying to piece together what happened. Witnesses told police the shots were fired from a vehicle that was last seen driving toward Valley Drive.
Right now police don't know why Sheppard was shot.
