The dogs are coming!

Syracuse's Fall Dog Show features breed judging as well as agility and obedience classes

Syracuse's fall dog shows draw big crowds of both canines and their handlers, from all over North America. And they put on quite a show!

We were visited this morning by Dr. Debbie Eldredge, a veterinarian from the Vernon area, and her two Belgian Tervurens. Dani is 12 years old and will show in the 'veterans' division--she's also a champion tracking dog. And the 12 month old puppy 'tagging along' was a handful (take a look at the video!)

The AKC-sanctioned show at the State Fairgrounds is actually three daily shows, next Friday to Sunday. Each starts with dogs competing against each other in their breed, and winners progress to compete against other breeds, then 'best in show'.There are separate competitions for obedience, as well as agility (obstacles). Besides being a good show, Dr. Eldredge says it's a great place to pick up doggie-related gifts and necessities, and if you're interested in particular breeds, there's a 'meet the breeds' info session on Saturday at noon.

The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday 9am - 4pm at the State Fairgrounds. We have some tickets--up to four per request, email me by Tuesday (put 'dog show' in the subject line) and we'll confirm with you--you'll have to come here to pick them up.
