Another movie production crew is coming to Syracuse. This time the movie is totally fictional, but set entirely in the Hotel Syracuse.
It's a story about a famed mathematician who comes to Syracuse University to deliver a research paper. While he is in the city, he stays at the Hotel Syracuse. As his stay goes on, he meets people from his past.At first, he believes it's all a hallucination, but the Hotel is actually becoming a metaphor for his life. That is the basic plot behind the new movie "The Hotel Syracuse" starring John Malkovich. Filming will start in July and be done entirely at the Hotel Syracuse.
The budget for the film is $6 million and should take 45 days to shoot. It's been months in the making and this summer the Hotel will come alive with movie production staff, Hollywood actors and local extras. Filming a movie in the city should be a big boost to the economy. The Syracuse Film Fest is also hoping Malkovich will come back in October for their festival.Israeli movie maker Haim Buzaglo is the director of this new film. He also directed 'Session' starring Bar Rafaeli which is due out this spring and may be entered in the Canne Film Festival. That movie was also shot in Syracuse including familiar locations like Clinton Square.
The Syracuse Film Office is working to bring more movie makers to the region and is funded by the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County.
