The I-690 eastbound construction has started: How do you get around?

      I-690 closure

I-690 eastbound is officially closed for two weeks, which could make travel into the city difficult for many commuters.

The construction project is expected to last until Thursday, June 26, with the road being closed to all traffic between the West Street exit and the ramp from southbound I-81 to 690 eastbound. The Onondaga Creekwalk is also closed.

Here??s how to get around the mess:

For Eastbound I-690 thru traffic : Eastbound I-690 to Exit 9 (Bear Street). Continue north on Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Street; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690.

For Northbound West Street to Eastbound I-690 : Ramp to westbound I-690; exit at Geddes Street; right turn at bottom of ramp; left turn onto Pulaski Street; right turn onto Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Drive; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690.

For the ramp from Geddes Street to eastbound I-690 : Continue north on Geddes Street; left turn onto Pulaski Street; right turn onto Bear Street; right turn onto Genant Drive; ramp to southbound I-81; ramp to eastbound I-690.

For the Creekwalk : North Franklin and Plum Streets.

Drivers from the western suburbs should consider taking the NYS Thruway to Exit 34A (I-481), then use southbound I-481 to westbound I-690 to get into downtown or Syracuse??s eastside.

Has this closure already affected your travel?
