Linda Mortimer, the owner of Sparky Town restaurant and cafe on Burnet Avenue in Syracuse, died suddenly in her sleep Sunday night.
Word of "Sparky's" sudden death has spread quickly on social media sites. On Facebook, nearby businessowner Michael Desalvo wrote, "We are shocked and a bit freaked out at the moment. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as well as Lauren and her friends and extended community and family. She had one of the biggest hearts and a huge part of our community for many years."
Desalvo, who owns Hairanoia, went on to say "There are no words to say how much she will be missed. God bless her soul and perpetual light shine upon her."
Another post on the Sparky Town Facebook page indicates there will be a vigil in Mortimer's honor Monday night. Rebecca Forbes wrote, "We will be on the sidewalk in front of Sparky Town, Monday, November 21st at 7:00 pm. Bring a candle to light. Sparky, your neighbors in Hawley-Green and friends would like to thank you for all that you have done for our community (and beyond). Words cannot express our gratitude and sadness."
The restaurant Sparky Town in Syracuse's Hawley-Green neighborhood is closed until further notice.
