      The Talk Tonight - Syracuse Woman Magazine focuses on health and wellness

      As women, we need to be our own advocate for our health. The June edition of Syracuse Woman Magazine focuses on "Health and Wellness," and encouraging women to take control of their health.

      This month's cover features Dr. Margherite Bonaventura, a Syracuse area surgeon who has been practicing for more than 30 years. "Dr. B" has been practicing mainly at the Syracuse VA Medical Center over the past three decades, but also she's been teaching hundreds of medical residents at the same time. Her tough demeanor has earned her a reputation of being one of the most respected and well-known surgeons in the area. Editor Farah Jadran sat down with Dr. B and some of her colleagues and former students to find out more about her outstanding career. Dr. B will retire from her post at the Syracuse VA at the end of June.

      This month's magazine also looks at how to obtain overall health and wellness, taking a closer lookat infrared sauna therapy at a local woman owned business, Saunacuse. This business in conjunction with its neighbor Erica Abdo Makeup, offers services for the body, inside and out. Erica Abdo has skin therapies for rejuvenation that complement a sauna session that detoxifies the body first.

      The June edition also includes three features in the "Syracuse Women Inspire" section that highlights the careers of three local health and wellness professionals. Each woman talks about her own health and her thoughts on health care. This month's inspiring women are Pam Hunter, Regional Director of the Epilepsy Foundation; Dr. Sandra Sulik, Vice President of Medical Affairs at St. Joseph's Hospital, and Karla Caramella, CNY Manager for Quest Diagnostics.

      In this month's Platter Chatter section,learn more about a health dessert alternative, especially when it comes to fighting celiac disease. The Cookie Connection Gluten Free Bakery features a sister duo that offers everything from birthday cake and half-moons to muffins and biscotti, but all gluten free.
