Three dead in wrong-way crash on I-481

Three people are dead after two cars crashed on Interstate 481 in Clay late Friday night.

Onondaga County 911 says it received the first reports of a car going south in the northbound lane just before 10:30 pm. State Police say the first reports came in at about the Oswego-Onondaga County line, and the crash happened near the Henry Clay Boulevard overpass.

The driver of the car going the wrong way is identified as 61-year-old Gary Foster, from Moore Avenue in Syracuse. He was killed, as was a passenger in his car, 82-year-old Jacqueline Grove from East Brighton Avenue in Syracuse.

The driver of the other car, 27-year-old Alaina Reed from Braewood Drive in Baldwinsville, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

I-481 was reopened at about 4:15 Saturday morning. It had been closed between Caughdenoy Road and Route 31 (Great Northern Mall area) while crews investigated the crash scene and cleaned up the debris.

State Police investigators are asking the public for information, including where Gary Foster was coming from just before the crash. If you can help you are asked to call 677-9664.
