Part of East Albany Street in Oswego County was closed Tuesday night while City of Oswego Police investigated a crash that killed three people.
Lt. Charles Searor tells CNY Central that the crash happened around 8:13 p.m. at the intersection of East Albany Street and Jim Shampine Drive. That's right in front of the Oswego Speedway.
Lt. Searor says a car carrying five young people was headed east on Albany Street when it smashed into a utilty pole and ejected some of the passengers.
Three men in their 20s were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Their conditions are unknown at this time but they are expected to recover.
Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash, but the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
East Albany Street between East 13th Street and City Line Road was closed for several hours while the investigation was underway.
Police say more information is expected to be made available Wednesday morning.
