Three men arrested and stolen gun found after routine traffic stop in Syracuse

Syracuse Police arrested three men and recovered a stolen handgun during a routine traffic stop at about 11:10 pm Friday on Lydell Street near Grand Avenue.

The officer pulled over a Buick Rendezvous after the driver ignored a stop sign at the intersection of Rowland and Arthur Streets. As the car was pulling over, the officer noticed one of the riders tossed what looked like a handgun out of the vehicle.

The officer called for backup and the three people in the car were detained.

Police found a loaded .38 caliber handgun near the scene. Police say the handgun had been reported stolen.

Police arrested the driver, 27-year-old Haithem Hasan, and passengers 17-year-old Richard Chatman and 18-year-old Romeo Williams.

All three were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.

Hasan was also ticketed for unlicensed operation, disobeying a stop sign and speeding.
