Three Syracuse news anchors come together to fight domestic & sexual violence

Vera House of Syracuse and Central New York has announced news anchors Michael Benny, Matt Mulcahy & Dan Cummings will be Honorary Chairs for the 2013 White Ribbon Campaign. In a message to supporters, Vera House Development Director Jenny Hicks said, "We are so excited to have such a wonderful group of male leaders help send the message that there is "No Excuse For Abuse." The campaign runs from April 12th to 21st and starts with a kickoff breakfast April 9th at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool.

New for 2013, Vera House is adding a fundraising component to the "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" event on April 12th. Click here to see video from a similar event held in 2012 in Edmonton, Canada. During the walk, the men who participate do so in high heels. Vera House believes the walk offers men an opportunity to reflect on womenâ??s experiences, thus potentially changing perspectives and helping improve gender relations and decrease the potential for violence.

The White Ribbon campaign stated in the 1990's in response to the Montreal Massacre which became a galvanizing moment in which mourning turned into outrage about all violence against women.

You will be hearing more about Michael, Matt and Dan's involvement in the Central New York White Ribbon campaign soon.
