Three teenagers were rescued after their boat capsized on Skaneateles Lake.

It happened around 3:10 p.m. Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene after reports of a boat in distress.

Someone called 911 after seeing a 16 foot canoe being pulled towards the middle of the lake due to the high gusts of wind. The canoe flipped over, leaving the three teens treading water. Deputies say 19-year-old Shane Pfohl, 18-year-old Timothy Smith and 19-year-old Sol Escribano were not wearing life jackets.

An employee from Skaneateles Marina, who also witnessed the incident, responded with a pontoon style boat and was able to pull the three teens to safety.

The teens were brought to shore and evaluated by emergency personnel. None of them were hurt.

Deputies say Escribano had a small amount of marijuana on him at the time. He is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and was issued an appearance tickets.

The winds on Skaneateles Lake were reported to be up to 40 miles per hour this afternoon.
