NWS confirms tornado downed trees, power lines in Oneida County

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado went through Oneida County.

The NWS says the tornado occurred southwest of Verona and near Vernon just before 5 p.m. Friday.

Our Wayne Mahar went there to survey the damage and found uprooted trees, a myriad of debris and several telephone poles that had come down, including one that landed on a truck and camper.

In spite of that, the best news from each house Wayne visited was that nobody had been hurt.

Video appearing to show a funnel cloud (which can be seen below) and evidence left behind by the storm appeared to indicate an element of rotation, according to Mahar. A team from the National Weather Service confirmed that was the case.

The heaviest damage was observed along Route 365 near the Turning Stone Casino, according to emergency officials.
