Tractor trailer tips over on I-81 north ramp, dumping trailer into river

A truck has spilled its load on I-81 north in the Cortlandville, leaving quite a mess for crews to clean up.

The truck's trailer is sitting upright in the Tioghnioga River below I-81. Two subsequent crashes happened right after the truck turned-over due to debris on the road.

State Police say a tractor trailer rolled-over on the exit 11 ramp. The trailer detached from the truck during the crash and fell off the overpass into the river. The truck driver, 31-year-old Robinson B. Jaquez, was not hurt. The accident is under investigation. Police are looking into whether fog played a role in the crash, or if the driver fell asleep.

The road has since been reopened.

A towing company has been called to remove the trailer from the river. The State DOT says a temporary concrete barrier has been put in place until the guiderail can be fixed.
