Thu, 08 Aug 2013 18:00:26 GMT — A week after completing a resurfacing project on Route 81 southbound through Syracuse, construction crews are preparing to close down the northbound lanes beginning Friday at 6 p.m. I-81 northbound lanes will be closed from August 9 until Monday, August 19. Over the next 10 days, motorists will be routed onto detours around or through the city of Syracuse. During that time, the state will replace the concrete decking with pre-cast slabs. According to DOT spokesman Gene Cilento, the pre-cast sections will significantly reduce the time span of the project. Everyday, an average of 82,000 vehicles travel on Route 81 through Syracuse. The state is spending $17.4 million the decks on 13 bridges in Cayuga, Oneida and Onondaga counties as part of Governor Andrew Cuomoâ??s NY Works program.
