An alert for drivers who take Route 11 over the Oneida River in Brewerton, as the State DOT is closing the bridge after a morning inspection.
The bridge is being closed as a precautionary measure after inspectors found ??significant deterioration in a steel connection area?? on one of the beams on the south end of the bridge. Repair plans are currently being made, and the DOT says repairs will begin as soon as the bridge is closed.
An average of 12,500 vehicles a day cross the bridge, which is on the border of Onondaga and Oswego Counties.
A posted detour will take drivers to Bartel Road, Interstate 81 and NY Route 49 in order to get around the bridge.
